Price and Stephens Split UCRA 602 Wins at Fort Payne
Fyffe, AL (7/29/17) --- A pair of outsiders waltzed in Fort Payne Motor Speedway Saturday night a not only took home both the $600 top pay but also jumped the UCRA 602/Sportsman Mini Series points leader Jesse Hughes in the process. A $3,000 payday awaits the champion of the 12 race (6 each track) mini series and Saturday Richie Stephens claimed his 4th consecutive victory against 15 other competitors. Stephens in his "K&J Trucking, LoveStuffOnline.com, Knotts Towing & Recovery" sponsored racecar set fast time in qualifying before leading all 25 laps of the first "Double Trouble" feature during the FireCracker 50 event Saturday. Redrawing 7th out of 8 positions, Stephens would end race #2 in 10th after making contact racing David Harwood for 3rd early in the feature. Ellaville, Georgia's Jason Price inherited the lead, when Colten Jackson was penalized for jumping the restart with three laps remaining. Jackson salvage his night with runner up finishes in both features. Jesse Hughes entered the weekend event with a slim 7-point lead over Stephens, but finished last and was unable to start the second feature. Chatsworth, GA's John Parker had a solid weekend with a Top 5 finish and a 6th place run to keep pace with Hughes with Blake Benefield and early season victor David Harwood still in the championship mix.
