Stephens Wins 6th UCRA 602/Sportsman Feature
Phenix City, AL (9/3/17) --- For the sixth time this season the “Rocketman” Richie Stephens put his "K&J Trucking, LoveStuffOnline.com, Knotts Towing & Recovery" sponsored racecar of Phenix City, Alabama in Victory Lane Sunday at East Alabama Motor Speedway. The now UCRA 602/Sportsman Mini Series champion started on pole in this 26 car field, but was challenged early by Bubba Gorman who lead until lap 5 when Stephens took command of the race leaving only 8 cars on the lead lap at the finish. Jackson Thomason started 8th, was 5th on lap 4, 4th on lap 9, 3rd on lap 12, 2nd on lap 18 where he finished after some really great battles with Gorman and Blant Duke. Keith McGuire started 12th, grabbed 10th on lap 1, 8th on lap 4, 7th by lap 6, 5th by lap 12, and 4th on lap 16 to the finish. Gorman would round out the Top 5. The 12th and final points championship of the overall $3,000 mini series between EAMS and Fort Payne Motor Speedway is this Saturday Sept. 9th in Fort Payne, AL. The battle for runner up to Stephens Championship is still up in the air between Jason Price and Jesse Hughes.
