UCRA - United Championship Racing Alliance
Shannon Scores Big Win with Second-Straight UCRA Fort Payne Win
Fort Payne, AL (4/29/23) --- Matt Shannon of Delano, Tennessee scored his second consecutive United Championship Racing Alliance - UCRA race, presented by Red Line Synthetic Oil Saturday night in Northeast, Alabama at the Fort Payne Motor Speedway. Collecting the hefty $7238 to win prize, Shannon in his # 15 "MSR, SyMy Capital LLC, ASM Home & Commercial Service, Interstate Welding & Steel Supply, Mike Fauser Plumbing, Team SRI Performance, Action Suspension, Young Blood Graphix” sponsored Longhorn, grabbed the lead from fast qualifier, Sam Seawright of nearby Rainsville, AL before the races half way point and would go on unchallenged with the exception of a few late restarts for minor cautions. Newnan, Georgia's Marty Lunsford whom was victorious in the Fort Payne's Bama Brawl back in March, finished second to Shannon .668 seconds behind at the checkers. Lunsford is unofficially 4th in current points just one point behind second and third. Rounding out the podium finishers was current UCRA Rookie of the Year contender Jeff Helms of Gadsden, AL. Rounding out the Top 5 finishers were a pair of Bama racers in Brent Rhodes and Bill Mahan respectfully.
Other notable finishes include early race leaders Cody Overton and Sam Seawright. Overton lead the first few laps of the 72 lap feature before Seawright got by using cumbersome back-marker traffic. Seawright would get caught up in the same back-marker congestion, allowing Shannon to take the lead prior to halfway. Overton would only finish 44 laps dropping to 13th overall. Seawright didn't fair well in the second half getting caught up in two cautions, managing to salvage a 7th place finish overall. Kasey Hall of nearby Geraldine, AL was 9th overall leading the cars one lap down unofficially. Current UCRA points leader Jessie Hughes of Crossville, AL finished 10th behind Hall and unofficially still maintains a 10 point lead over Hall and Shannon. Defending and two time UCRA champion Kenny Kizzar and local racer Roger Morgan are now unofficially tied for 5th in points by virtue of their 11th and 12th place finishes.
The next UCRA event will take place in two weeks on Saturday night May 13th for the "Slammin' Saturday Night 40" $3000 to win event at Crossville (TN) Speedway in the Cumberland Plateau between Knoxville and Nashville.
